World’s Largest Mountain Hiking & Biking Event

Support Our Efforts!

Donate Now

Simuka Africa Youth Association & Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe alone, our project seeks to mobilize 10, 000 motorists to cycle or walk for a distance of about 40 km either going to work, shopping or any other social event for a month every year, hence reducing carbon emissions.

Simuka Africa Youth Association plans to  engage learning institutions, corporations, religious organizations, professional bodies, development partners and governments. Our efforst will also encourage their memberships and individuals within their sphere of influence to consider cycling and or walking as a mode of transport during the hiking and biking month.

We are committed to continuing our important work for years to come. With the support of our community, we can make an even greater impact and create a brighter future for all.

The Reason

It is inevitable that many people will wonder about the impact of environmental air quality on lungs or worry that yet another hurricane will unleash life-threatening floods to take everything they own. This is the new reality the global population face every day due to climate change.

Populations from the global south and other less developed countries are paying the greatest price in the climate crisis, despite contributing the least its acceleration.

The Climate Reality Project 2021 publication indicated that climate change is projected to cause an additional 250,000 death each year by 2030, primarily in developing countries. This calls for the urgent need to amplify our collective efforts and actions on climate change in particular climate justice.

The Initiative Proposal

1) Objectives

1) Objectives

1) Objectives

  • To raise awareness on climate change and the need to reduce carbon emissions through supporting climate smart rural tourism.

  • To host mountain hiking events that will help to amplify our collective voices on climate change and climate justice.

  • To provide an opportunity for the global population to explore the beauty of nature through mountain hiking and the need to preserve our environment.

  • To empower local youths and women with skills, qualifications and competencies needed to run successful rural tourism ventures such as hiking and trekking.

  • To contribute towards employment creation of youths and women in rural Zimbabwe through helping them to venture into adventure tourism.

2) Activities

1) Objectives

1) Objectives

  • Engagement of critical partners such as Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, Traditional Chiefs, the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Hospitality and Tourism, the Chinhoyi University of Technology and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Recreation.

  • Development of MOUs with project partners.

  • Identifying project sites.

  • Empowering identified youth with skills, competencies and qualifications to run their own rural tourism ventures.

  • Marketing the tourism sites locally and globally.

  • Providing opportunities for youth to create and maintain treks that guide hikers and bikers.

  • Encouraging citizens via participation to make conscious efforts aimed at reducing their carbon footprint.

3) Benefits

1) Objectives

3) Benefits

  • Participants will be issued certificates of appreciation and participate in prize raffle drawings.

  • Participants are required to register as individuals and small groups, identify hills, routes (for going to work, shopping, and other social gathering using bikes) and mountains within their reach.

  • Participants will be asked to share their experiences using social media platforms created for the event.

  • Participants will share their thoughts and concerns on climate change to hold global leaders accountable for their climate change pledges.

  •  Hikers will pay a small fee for using the treks, creating employment for the youth.

  • Generated funds will be used in environmental preservation, climate induced disaster mitigation efforts and resilient building.

Climate Change action

Simuka Africa Youth Association in cooperation with our UNV Online Volunteers always seek to amplify our collect voices with actions toward climate change.

The event, which will be held annually each June, will enable more than a million young people and other stakeholders to explore the beauty of nature. We believe the need to preserve it will increase lobbying  of global leaders, development partners and corporations to act on climate change.

Furthermore, the hiking and biking activities will promote active travelling by swapping cars for cycling and walking, hence contributing to reduction of carbon emissions by estimated 7.560 tons during the month of June of every year.
